Chevrolet Volt

The Chevrolet Volt Plug-In Hybrid is Now Available at Sunrise Chevy!

The Chevy Volt debuted in 2011 as a plug-in hybrid, powered primarily by an electric motor that has a range of about 40 miles. If you need to go farther than that, a gasoline engine acts as a generator to extend the range by up to 300 miles, turning the vehicle into a regular hybrid. According to EPA ratings, the Volt has the best fuel-efficiency of any compact car with a gasoline engine sold in the U.S.

This vehicle has won several awards for its environmentally friendly initiatives, such as the 2009 Green Car Vision Award, the 2011 Green Car of the Year, and the 2011 World Green Car.

This vehicle represents a step into the unknown for the manufacturer and other automakers. The plug-in hybrid technology is relatively new, and the impressive outcomes are always being tested. The Volt is a look into the future of vehicle advancement.

The Current Generation of the Volt

The Chevy Volt has the capacity to run much farther and faster with its electric power than any other hybrid. It can go up to 100 mph and last anywhere from 25 to 50 miles without using any gasoline at all. Once the battery power runs out, the gas engine jumps in and actually makes electricity for the motor and even occasionally powers the wheels, which increases the Volt’s range by up to 300 more miles. The electric motor puts out 149 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque.

This vehicle comes standard with automatic climate control, OnStar technology, plenty of airbags, stability control, Bluetooth, MyLink (except for the 2011 year), audio streaming, and enhanced smartphone integration. Volt owners can even check the car’s status and schedule charging times via an online portal or a mobile app. The OnStar technology includes crash notification, on-demand roadside assistance, remote unlocking capability, turn-by-turn navigation, and vehicle theft assistance.

The plentiful torque gives the Volt great pep and acceleration, and the vehicle corners very well. It performs as well as any four-cylinder sedan, and the switch between power sources does not affect acceleration.

The interior of the Volt holds a distinct dashboard design that looks futuristic and high-tech, complete with touch-sensitive buttons. The rear seat fits two adults, with the middle of the seat holding part of the battery pack. The rear seatbacks fold down to allow more cargo capacity. The cabin looks attractive and refined with high quality materials. The hatchback design allows for easy loading.
