Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD: a Legacy of Capable Hauling
Billed as the “Most Dependable Longest Lasting Full Size Pickup on the Road,” it’s unsurprising that the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD pickup and the rest of the truck’s models have been huge hits at our dealership in Glendale Heights. As one would expect, this pickup truck has a legacy of greatness — but it’s only been around since 2001! Let’s take a look back and consider why this truck has been so popular around the streets of Bloomingdale.
A Strong Truck on the Cusp of a Redesign
The Silverado burst onto the scene in 1998 — and while most people go with the light-duty 1500 model, drivers who need serious hauling capability go for the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD or 3500HD pickup. The HD models arrived for the 2001 model year.
The Silverado 2500HD, of course, was capable from the start. The first-generation model was available with one of three engines: a 6.0L Vortec V8 that produces 300 hp and 360 lb-ft of torque, a 6.6L Duramax V8 that offers 300 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque, and an 8.1L Vortec V8 that can produce 340 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque. When properly equipped, it can tow as much as 16,100 pounds
The second generation began in the 2007 model year and continues to the current 2013 model. You get two engine options with the 2013 model: a 6.0L V8 that can produce 360 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque or a 6.6L turbo diesel V8 that’s able to produce 397 hp and 765 lb-ft of torque. When properly equipped, it can tow as much as 13,000 pounds with a standard ball hitch or 17,800 pounds with a fifth-wheel connection.
Chevrolet has indicated that the 2014 model year will bring a redesign for its venerable pickup truck. It’s going to offer three gas engine options: a 4.3L Vortec V6, a 5.3L Vortec V8, or a 6.2L Vortec V8.
