How Long Does it Take to Charge a Chevy Bolt?

2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV Charging

If you are ready to make the change from a gas guzzler to an environmentally conscious driver in the Chicago area, then it’s about time to make the switch to an electric vehicle (EV). You can go from burning fuel, to operating on electricity. You can save money and avoid the pump, while doing your part to reduce your carbon footprint. The new Chevy Bolt is an incredible choice of electric vehicles available. Driving an electric vehicle is a solid choice, but you might be asking yourself, “How long does it take to charge a Chevy Bolt?” Well, there are three charge levels with various driving ranges for your Bolt at different speeds. Keep reading to learn more with Sunrise Chevrolet, below.

Electric Car Charger: Three Options for the Chevy Bolt

The Chevy Bolt has an EPA-estimated 259 miles of range with a single full charge. There are three options to choose from for charging your Chevy Bolt:

Level 1 Basic: The 120-Volt Portable Charger Cord

The first electric car charger for you to choose from allows you to charge at home and provides you with 4 miles of charge per hour.

Level 1 charging includes a 120-volt portable charger cord that comes standard with the vehicle. Anywhere you go you can charge anywhere that has a 120-volt, three-prong outlet, your typical home outlet. It is recommended to charge your electric vehicle overnight if you choose this option. A 12-hour charge gives you about 48 miles of range. Another recommendation is to charge your vehicle every day, this way the battery never runs out as you drive around Addison.

Level 2 Fast: The 240-Volt Charging Unit

The 240-volt level 2 electric car charger is designed for both home and public stations. It will give you about 25 miles of charge per hour.

The plug for the level 2 electric car charger needs to be professionally installed by an electrician, but it comes highly recommended as the best option for home use. It’s the most convenient and efficient option and charges quickly. If you drive roughly 40-50 miles per day, your battery could be fully recharged in about 2 hours and ready for your drive.

If you drive around 100 miles round trip on your commute or you’re planning a fun adventure to see something exciting, you can recharge the battery in approximately 4.5 hours. If your battery is empty, the Chevy Bolt EV charges completely again in 9.5 hours. It is still recommended that you recharge overnight every night, but with the level 2 charger, you can recharge your Bolt every couple of days.

Level 3 Super Speed: DC Fast Charging

This charging option is only available with public charging stations. The public station gives you 100 miles of range with only 30 minutes of charge time.

Level 3 charging is only available at the DC Fast Charger station in public stations. DC Fast Chargers come at an extra cost for Bolt owners. The cost is worthwhile, and is useful if you’re out and need to fully charge your car battery. This electric car charger can replenish your battery up to 160 miles in about an hour.

Where to Find Your Closest Public Charging Station

When you’re driving in Carol Stream, and you are trying to locate the nearest electric car charger for your Chevy Bolt it is actually very simple. If you log into the myChevrolet mobile app, and choose the Energy Assist feature. In the app you’ll find it chooses a charging station for you, to take you on the most efficient route and gets you the shortest wait time to start charging.
