Chevrolet Cars are the Best for Senior Drivers

By Sunrise Chevrolet | July 29th, 2016

Older drivers face different challenges when it comes to driving and choosing a car. According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), by 2020 there will be over 40 million drivers who are 65 and older in the country. Fortunately, Chevy’s vehicles are designed with features to help aid the changes that come with aging. Seniors shopping for a new car will find that we have what they are looking for.

Senior Friendly Features

We know that it is important to cater to older drivers and our cars prove that. The cars we sell are built with power adjustable seats, advanced safety features, easy access in our SUV models, and great visibility both in the car and on the road. Here are a couple cars that provide seniors with everything they need to feel safe and confident on the road.

The Chevrolet Impala

The Chevrolet Impala has interface controls that are easy to use. The controls are simple and straightforward with old-fashioned knobs and buttons. Advanced safety features include forward-collision monitoring, lane-departure warning, and blind spot monitoring. These safety features are great for assisting seniors who may have a harder time twisting and turning to maneuver the vehicle.

The Impala has outstanding visibility all around, wide seats, and a common-sense control layout make Impala even more senior-friendly. It received commendable crash test scores from both NHTSA and the IIHS. OnStar provides spoken turn-by-turn directions, remote car unlocking, readily available roadside assistance, and automatic crash notification.

The Chevrolet Equinox

The Chevy Equinox crossover is a higher vehicle, which may be good for seniors who struggle getting in and out of lower vehicles and also have a better view of the road. Drivers will find it easy to get comfortable with a power-adjustable seat height, a tilt-telescopic steering wheel and 10 inches of room for seat movement. These features will lessen discomfort for those with lower-body mobility issues. Also, the MultiFlex rear seat can be moved 8 inches back and forth to optimize legroom or rear cargo space.

There are also “smart features” that come with the car. Standard features include electronic stability control, plentiful storage bins, traction control, six air bags, and a “smart” remote start feature that activates the climate control and optional heated seats, depending on outside temperature. Remote start is helpful for senior to have their car warmed up or heated before they get ready to drive it.
