The 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 only recently arrived at our Bloomingdale-area Chevy dealer, but we’re already looking ahead to the 2015 Chevy Silverado. While models usually don’t get a lot of changes one year after a redesign, we’ve heard talk of the Silverado gaining a diesel option. Let’s take a look at what the buzz is about so far.
New Powertrain Options
For the new generation, Chevy put in a lot of work to reduce weight and improve fuel economy. Even thought the vehicle has been built, they aren’t going to stop trying to make the generation more fuel efficient. First, there’s talk that Chevy will be introducing a new eight-speed automatic transmission with the 2015 model. A higher-speed transmission would improve acceleration and fuel economy.
The other big news is Chevy may be planning to add clean-burning diesel engine as an option on the Silverado 1500. There are diesel V8s available for the HD models, but it’s unusual for a 1500 model to have a diesel option; however, as drivers look for more fuel efficient options, diesel makes sense. Diesel engines have better fuel economy than comparable gas engines and offer more low-end torque power. That’s going to mean more towing power for drivers too.
The 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 is a very modern pickup with everything from Bluetooth to Blu-Ray. There might not be many features to add, but you can bet to see some higher-level features come down to lower trims. In particular, we expect to see the lines blur between the 1WT and 2WT base trims with features like Bluetooth and keyless entry becoming standard.
